Saving Lives and Property: Ricardo Navarrete

Late one night, Emergency Dispatcher Operator Ricardo Navarrete received a silent hold-up button alarm from a convenience store in California. He knew that hold-up alarms can mean pretty scary situations for our customers. Without delay he called the police and with lights flashing and sirens blaring they raced to the store.

Once there, the officers took caution while approaching the store. With skill and precision they were able to apprehend a suspect who was in the process of robbing the clerk. Shocked that he had been caught, the suspect was quickly handcuffed and taken to jail where he was booked for the crime.

AFTER THE EMERGENCY

Later when we talked to our customer, he was well pleased with Ricardo’s quick response that saved the day. He said “Thank you Monitronics, great work.”

Monitronics Recognized for False Alarm Reduction Efforts

Monitronics is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious FARA (False Alarm Reduction Association) Industry False Alarm Reduction Achievement Award. FARA presented the award to Monitronics at their annual convention this year in San Antonio, Texas.

Monitronics is recognized this year as a result of significantly reducing false alarms from 0.67% to 0.5% through several major programs beginning in August 2010. The company was chosen for the award by a group from across the US and Canada which consisted of public safety officials, peers in the industry, and alarm association representatives.

“One of our industry’s basic challenges is false alarms; our ultimate goal is to positively impact how quickly emergency responders can reach victims during actual emergencies. The fact that FARA recognizes our efforts is an honor,” said Mary Jensby, Monitronics Central Station Director. “Our programs only work if every single member of our team is on board, that’s why this award represents our entire company and not just one person.”

This year marks Monitronics’ first year with the association and its first year of taking on false alarms. The company promises to continue to work with public safety officials, customers, and the industry to combat false alarms.

Top 5 Reasons to Adore Your Interactive Security System

While many people struggle to put their outdated alarm systems to use, Alarm.com offers five reasons to fall head over heels for interactive home security systems that you’ll want to use every day. Before you know it, you’ll be loving your time spent interacting with a reasonably-priced, easy-to-use home security system and remote monitoring technology.

1. It will be by your side, night and day

Stay connected to your home on a daily basis with free security mobile apps to control your security system from afar. Security apps for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android devices enable arming or disarming of your system while out and about. Maybe you’d like to know what doors and windows are open, or if there’s a leak in the basement. Find out about both alarm and non-alarm events right from your cell phone. Also look in on your home with integrated video monitoring technology.

2. It’s great at communicating

Is your security system a good listener? Can you count on it to not only protect you and your family, but to also keep you aware of activity that goes on when you can’t be at the house? Set up customized alerts for notification via text message or email of any activity you’d like to know about. Find out if the pool gate was opened or when the handyman arrived. Wondering how long the cleaning crew stayed at the house? Track that as well.

Summer scams are about to start

This summer, beware of door-to-door home security scams. Alarm system salespeople may visit your home, offering to replace or upgrade your alarm system for free. Don’t do it! We’ve seen customers deceived by these pitches.

The offers are not legitimate and you might end up with some unpleasant consequences: double bills, a broken security system, and a real headache. Never change your security provider without calling Monitronics first at 800.396.9815.

Look for the signs of a scam:

1. Offering free upgrades or equipment
If it sounds too good to be true, it is! These systems are anything but free—they could cost you time, money, and peace of mind.

2. Claiming that Monitronics is out of business.
Monitronics provides the award-winning protection you trust, 24/7.

3. Using high pressure sales talk, trying to make you switch security companies.
Red flag: honest salespeople don’t need to be pushy.

Report suspicious activity right away to Monitronics. These people are often friendly, neatly dressed, and college-aged. They’re usually unassuming and perceived as helpful and informative.

If a security salesperson show up at your door, get his or her name and company and call Monitronics at 800.396.9815. Your safety is our first priority.
