Monitronics Director receives humanitarian award

Barb Holliday

Barb, recipient of Mission 500 Humanitarian Award

Our very own Director of Dealer Services, Barb Holliday received the  2011 Mission 500 Humanitarian Award last night at a reception at ISC West in Las Vegas.

Barb is recognized by the industry-driven nonprofit, Mission 500, for her involvement with several nonprofits.  She is an advocate volunteer at the North Texas  Turning Point Rape Crisis Center, and dedicated over 400 hours of her time in 2010 alone volunteering to support of this important organization.

In addition, she is a sponsor of Women for Women International, an organization that puts funds directly into the hands of women in war zones and poverty stricken areas, and provides educational and work programs.

She is also a volunteer judge for FCCLA STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events, which is a program that uplifts high school kids in mostly rural areas by challenging them to compete in categories such as advocacy, entrepreneurship, environmental ambassadorship, leadership, and more.

We are so proud! Congratulations, Barb!

Corporations make good neighbors: Monitronics & Salvation Army

Group actionIt’s not often enough that we hear about corporations being good neighbors and community partners. But at Monitronics, it’s part of our culture. The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well, particularly in our Central Station. Led by Director Mary Jensby, the folks from our monitoring center have created a special relationship with the Dallas Salvation Army. Over the past two years, they’ve visited many times and helped prepare and serve meals to the clients.

Today, we received this kind letter of thanks from Volunteer Supervisor Nancy E. Kerley. I think it speaks to the difference that a group of committed people can make in a community. We’re proud of our affiliation with the Salvation Army and will be visiting there again April 26.

Dear Central Station Management,

I didn’t want to let any more time go by without saying a most heartfelt thanks to you for your many hours of volunteer service.

The months go by so quickly and we are all kept so very busy that we don’t always take the time to express to others how thankful we are for their time and energy.

You have been an important part of the work of The Salvation Army Carr P. Collins Social Service Center in that you have given of your personal time in volunteer service. How those hours do add up. We had 995 volunteers giving 4,235 hours of service! If you were to average that out it would almost equal the total number of hours our employees work in one month. That’s awesome!!!

Please know how thankful we are for you individually. You indeed are “Doing The Most Good.”

Sincerely,
Nancy E. Kerley, CVA

Monitronics employee given prestigious humanitarian award

Wow–what an honor! Our own Barb Holliday, Director of Dealer Services for Monitronics, is the recipient of the 2011 Mission 500 Humanitarian Award. Mission 500 is an industry driven nonprofit that serves the needs of children and communities in crisis. The purpose of the award is to honor an individual in the security industry who makes important contributions to those in need.

Barb is recognized for her involvement with several nonprofits.

The award will be presented at a cocktail reception on April 7 during ISC West in Las Vegas. Congratulations, Barb!

Monitronics is Going Red for Women!

Many women dismiss heart disease, when the fact is heart disease is the number one killer of women. To raise awareness for women, the AHA (American Heart Association) created the Go Red for Women campaign in 2004.

Monitronics has decided to Go Red for Women on Valentine’s Day in support of the fight against heart disease. We have a fabulous Wellness program and heart health is one major focus of the overall program. Some things we want you to know about heart disease:

  • Only 55% of women realize that public enemy number one for women is heart disease
  • About one woman every minute dies of heart disease
  • About one American dies every 39 seconds of heart disease
  • Prevention is simple: walking for 30 minutes a day dramatically decreases your risk

Kudos to Monitronics from local school

Each year, Monitronics employees participate in a toy drive benefiting a local school.

The children at Farmers Branch Elementary School come from families that are at or below the poverty level. In fact, 10 of the families of students are homeless this year, either living with other families or moving around. Many of the children would not receive gifts without the contributions of Monitronics employees.

On December 15, the donated toys were lined up in the halls of the school. After 5 p.m. the parents began to arrive and choose gifts for their children.

Relayed comments to us were about how great the gifts were and how grateful the parents were that their children would have a gift to open for Christmas.

As an update to this post, the faculty and students of Farmers Branch Elementary School surprised us with a big thank you. Check out their marquee!

Thank you, Farmers Branch Elementary School, for allowing us to bring joy to children during the holidays. This really is a favorite project for us during the holidays.
