Halloween safety from Monitronics zombies

Folks…it saddens me to report that Monitronics has been overtaken by zombies. These guys failed to practice safety in Halloweens past and are now doomed to aimlessly walk our halls each Halloween for eternity. To do our part in preventing the further spread of this epidemic, we are providing you with these Halloween safety tips for 2010:

  • Use your porch light and any exterior lights to signal trick-or-treaters that they are welcome and to allow you visibility over your property. An extra plus – zombies hate light so you get a little added protection.
  • If you have a trick-or-treater under the age of 12 in your home, be sure they are supervised.
  • Patrol your street occasionally – check for mischievous activity, crimes against children, and harm to animals. Also, check for zombies – they are easily recognizable with ripped up clothing and their slow, clumsy walk.
  • If you need to take a trip in the car on Halloween, drive slowly and carefully. Children get excited and dart into traffic without paying attention.
  • Consider using flashlights instead of candles in jack-o-lanterns to prevent fire. Zombies are known to knock over jack-o-lanterns during their flailing.
  • Set a time limit for your kids to trick-or-treat and define their route. Zombie herds are slow moving; you need to know where to pick up your kids in case of attack.

These tips will help you stay mindful and alert on Halloween so that you don’t wind up an aimless zombie – you have a plan.

Enjoy your Halloween!

Tuesday tips for preventing crime: Halloween

As the ghosts and goblins get ready for this Saturday, we take a quick look at Halloween safety tips for families.

  • Go trick-or-treating in groups with an adult supervising during daylight, if possible. If it’s dark, carry flashlights.
  • Never go into a strange house for your treats—stay outside the door.
  • Set a route and a time limit for trick-or-treating. Stick to well-lit streets, avoid shortcuts, and make sure someone not with your group knows where you are.
  • Watch out for dogs—this is not the night to make friends with a new four-legged creature.
  • Keep the treats until you go home. Take time to spread them out on a table and look for any packaging problems. Do not eat any candy that looks like it has been tampered with.
  • Have fun!
