Get fit, be fabulous

As part of the company’s commitment to employee health, Monitronics is rolling out a complete wellness program called MI Health. The company has partnered with the Methodist Hospital System to provide employees with a roust health and wellness program.

“A healthy, happy employee is our ultimate goal and MI Health will contribute to that by making our work environment more fulfilling and dynamic,” said Sherrie O’ Keefe, Director of Human Resources. “It’s part of our company mission to create this kind of workplace and I’m excited to see the ways employees make use of these new opportunities.”

The first part of MI Health that will be available is a health risk assessment (HRA) and biometrics.This will include (at no cost to the employee!):

    * Previous health information and family history
    * Finger prick blood draw for cholesterol–total, HDL, and LDL, and triglyceride levels, as well as blood sugar data
    * Blood pressure
    * Body composition analysis

About ten days after completing both the HRA and the other tests, Methodist will mail an individual report to each participating employee, a health summary. This is the foundation of the MI Health program and to participate in other activities, an employee will need to complete it.

The next step in the MI Health initiative will be to bring in a Methodist Hospital Wellness Coordinator, who will be at Moni three days a week.  The coordinator will use the results of the HRA to to determine the components we will include this year in the MI Health program, like classes. The actual activities, classes, and events will then be announced.

Monitronics is covering all the costs associated with the HRA andsince the Wellness Coordinator is a Methodist employee, all information are confidential. The company is only provided company totals, not individual information.

Monitronics has been focusing more on wellness, sponsoring a team in the December White Rock Marathon and updating the fitness room that same month to include an elliptical machine, treadmill, two exercise bikes, work-out and walking videos, stretch bands, hand weights, a Wii, and more.

The exercise room has moved to first floor two doors down from the Ouachita Conference Room and includes a treadmill, elliptical machine, two balance balls, work-out and walking videos, stretch bands, hand weights, and a scale. An air bike and recumbent bike will be delivered by Monday and there’s a new Wii Fit that can be checked out from the loss prevention desk on the first floor of the main tower (you’ll need to sign a waiver of liability before checking it out).

This is part of the commitment by the company to help employees meet fitness goals and stay in shape and is one piece of a wellness initiative called “MI Health.”

“MI Health is a targeted strategy to promote a healthy and dynamic work environment [since] part of our company mission is ‘to provide our Monitronics’ team with a positive and fulfilling work environment,’” said Sherrie O’Keefe, director of human resources. “We believe that MI Health will help create an even stronger work environment than we enjoy today.”

As part of MI Health, O’Keefe is sending out an employee survey next week to obtain information about what employees would like included in the program. There is a whole pallet of possibilities and O’Keefe said she wants to start with those that Monitronics employees most want implemented.

Monitronics marathon teams ready for Sunday race

The countdown has started for 53 employees from Monitronics who will be company sponsored in the White Rock Marathon this Sunday. Fifty be running in ten teams of five in the relay portion of the race. Each member of the teams will run between four and 6.2 miles along the 26.2-mile certified  course, which begins and ends in Victory Park at the American Airlines Center near downtown Dallas and goes to and around the lovely White Rock Lake. Two employees are running a half marathon and one is running the whole thing.

“I am very happy that our folks have taken an interest in living a healthy lifestyle, for many, this goal of running in the relay teams was the motivation they needed to start a regular exercise program, something Monitronics is committed in supporting,” said John Mejia, Vice President of Customer Care, who will tackle the entire race and has been the leader of the marathon efforts. “I am proud of all of them and regardless of the result, all of them are winners for taking on the challenge and getting ready for the race.”

It’s mostly a flat course with a few hills. Runners will get a nice tour of some of the fanciest neighborhoods in the city, including Turtle Creek, Highland Park, Lakewood, and the Swiss Avenue historical district.

Many Monitronics runners have been training for months to prepare–the first meeting here about the race was in September. Many are newbies.

“Running is not my forte, so I’m glad this is a team effort,” said Renee Mallonee, Dealer Marketing Supervisor.  “It has been encouraging to talk to others on my team about where we are in our training and our experiences in preparing for the race.”
