Everyday Superhero: Anira Garcia

Recently, Monitronics Emergency Dispatch Operator Anira Garcia received a silent panic signal from a business in Arizona. Anira sprang to action and immediately called the local police department. The police raced to the business with sirens blaring. Officers arrived to find everyone safe; an armed robbery had taken place but the suspects fled the scene.

The police were able to get a good description of the bad guys and their car. They put out an APB for the suspects and the manhunt began.

After the emergency

We talked to the store owner’s wife a couple days after the robbery. She told us about the event. We found that, during the incident, the bad guys wielded guns in the faces of her husband and other store employees. The robbers got away with almost $3,000 cash and grabbed merchandise as they made their getaway.

The store owner’s wife told us, “Everyone is okay now. We love our alarm system! It worked so great that night and the police got to the store so quickly. Thank you.”

No arrest has been made in the armed robbery case yet and it’s not the first time these guys have hit the same area. The detectives are hot on the trail and are optimistic that they will make an arrest very soon.

Three Times to Arm Your System

Ever have that dream where you need help and try to scream but no one can hear you? It’s a frightening dream to have, but it can be a reality. You have an alarm system to do the notification for you during emergencies. If you fail to arm your system regularly, you’re not fully protecting yourself.

There are three times that you should be sure to arm your alarm system:

  • In the morning before you leave for the day. You should arm your alarm system in “away mode” whenever you leave your house. If you stay home during the day, be sure your alarm system is in “stay mode” in the morning.
  • When you return home. Just after you come in the door, arm it.
  • Before bed. Your alarm system should already be alarmed in “stay mode,” but why not take the opportunity to be sure that the system is armed?

If you follow a routine, you can be sure that you are getting the most protection from us and your alarm system. Monitronics cares about your safety. To talk to one of us about getting an alarm system for your home, call 800-290-0709.

Everyday Superhero: Robert Bowman

On a recent Sunday night, Robert Bowman received a silent hold-up alarm from a food mart in Radcliff, Ky. He immediately contacted the local police who headed toward the store right away.

The police arrived at the food mart and found the store clerk bleeding from his head. Turns out two men had rushed through the front door, toward the lone clerk. He had only a split second to press the silent panic button before he was hit over the head with a gun. The robbers grabbed some money and cigarettes and took off.

The police dispatched an ambulance for the clerk, called for backup, and started searching for the armed robbers. Thanks in part to Robert’s quick response, the police nabbed the men within an hour.

After the emergency

The pair are now behind bars and have been charged with robbery, endangerment, and assault.

We were happy to hear that the store clerk suffered only minor injuries and recovered in just a few days. The owners of the store said they were super impressed with the arrest, their alarm system, and how quickly the police were dispatched.

Everyday Superhero: Albert Talafuse

Albert Talafuse recently received a medical alarm and threw on his cape. Within seconds, he was speaking with 63 year-old Mrs. O’Neal as she pleaded, “I’ve fallen in my living room; my back and neck are hurt. Please help me!”

Albert needed to send an ambulance but he didn’t want to hang up with Mrs. O’Neal; he needed to be there for her. He recruited a fellow hero to contact the paramedics. When the ambulance showed up, they quickly rushed Mrs. O’Neal to the nearest hospital.

AFTER THE EMERGENCY

A couple days later we chatted with Mrs. O’Neal and learned that she hadn’t been feeling well the entire morning of her mishap. She had spent most of the day in bed and decided she wanted to watch TV. Just as she walked into her living room, she fell and hit her head. That’s when she pressed her medical pendant. She said:

“I’m doing much better now but I still have a big bump on my head. I’m very satisfied with the alarm response and great customer service I received. I  truly appreciate Monitronics for always being there for me when I need them.  Thank you.”

Who Do We Call When Your House is on Fire?

Your emergency contact list is so vital to your alarm monitoring. We’ll always try to call you first to tell you about any emergency at your house. Then we’ll send the right emergency responder. But, somehow we need to let you know what’s going on at home.

That’s where your emergency contact list comes into play. These are the folks and numbers that we call if we can’t reach you at your home number. They should be people you trust who live or work near your home. Some considerations for your emergency contact list:

  • Be sure that you have all numbers we should try for you; think: cell, work numbers, spouse phone numbers.
  • Trusted neighbors are a good resource. They live close and can be at your house quickly if they’re available.
  • Trusted friends
  • Family members

And, remember to always keep this contact list up-to-date. You can manage it using your MyMonitronics account at Monitronics.com.
