We care about customer service!

BBBThe Better Business Bureau upgraded our rating to a B-!

We’re celebrating here, but our work is far from done. We are dedicated to providing the best possible service to each and every customer.

Here are some of the significant things we are doing to continually increase the quality of our customer experience.

  • We have a task force that meets frequently to review each and every BBB complaint to see how we could have done better. Based on that research, we implement changes within our organization so other customers don’t have the same issue.
  • We closely monitor our Facebook page. We want to hear your complaints, concerns, or compliments. That’s why we have a dedicated Executive Response Team agent who personally responds to Facebook comments.
  • We have an ongoing internal campaign, “How Low Can You Go?” which rewards employees who go above and beyond to serve our customers.

We strive to get it right the first time and when we don’t, we want to hear from you. Check out our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/monitronics , our Twitter page at www.twitter.com/monitronics, or call us at 800-447-9239 and let us know how we are doing. We want to know!

7 Reasons Paris Hilton Is the Most Opportune Crime Target Ever!

7 Reasons Paris Hilton Is the Most Opportune Crime Target Ever!Court records released over the summer revealed that a number of Hollywood celebrities, including Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and Orlando Bloom, secretly testified in the trials of the Bling Ring Burglars, a group of California teenagers, who were arrested for breaking into their – and several other celebrities’ — homes in California.

In case you missed the story, the Bling Ring Burglars, also known as the Hollywood Hills Burglars, committed a rash of burglaries between October 2008 and August 2009 and stole over $3 million dollars in jewelry, designer shoes, purses, clothing and other fashion accessories.  They even robbed some homes multiple times.

As the details from the Bling Ring’s year long Hollywood crime spree came to light over the past spring and summer, it became obvious that one victim stood out above the rest and may have earned the title of “The Most Opportune (We didn’t want to say, “easiest.”) Crime Target of All Time.”  Yes, we’re talking about Paris Hilton.

While it’s easy to criticize Paris for making pretty much every crime prevention mistake in the book, it’s probably fair to say that most of us have been guilty of committing one or all of these violations at some time or another.  Read about Paris’ mistakes below and follow the tips to avoid becoming a crime victim yourself.

Seven Ways Paris Hilton Made Herself an Ideal Crime Target for Criminals

  1. She fit the profile of an easy target
When Rachel Lee and Nick Prugo, the ring’s leaders were looking for their first victim, they asked themselves, “Who would be an easy target?  Who would be so careless as to leave so much jewelry and cash lying around that she wouldn’t miss it?”  They both agreed that Paris fit that profile to a tee.  They weren’t disappointed.

What message do you convey to potential criminals?  If you’re scattered, disorganized, and unaware of your surroundings – even at the local grocery store – you may be sending out signals to criminals looking for an easy target.

  2. She told the whole world that she wasn’t home
Paris frequently posts updates to her 2.6 million Twitter followers, so all the burglars just had to follow her updates to find out when she wouldn’t be home.  Granted, it’s not very hard to determine the whereabouts of a public figure such as Hilton, but she certainly made it easier for them.

Though you may not have as many followers as Paris, just keep in mind that when you write, “5 days to Vegas, Bay-beee!!!” on one of your social networking profiles, you never know who may be reading it.

  3. 3. She didn’t make arrangements for when she would be gone
This reason fits hand in hand with the previous one, but is strong enough to stand on its own.  Whether you’re broadcasting that you’re leaving town or not, make arrangements with your neighbors or a family friend to keep an eye on the house for you.  If possible, arrange for a house sitter to stay in your home while you’re away.

The first thing that the intruders did when they arrived at Paris’ front door at 2 am, was ring the doorbell.  Had lights come on or someone been there in Paris’ absence, the kids would most likely have run away – as they did at Ashley Tisdale’s house.

Even if you don’t publicize your comings and goings on your social networking pages, criminals can still get a pretty good idea of whether you’re home or not.  One celebrity who avoided being a victim was Disney star Ashley Tisdale.  The gang set out to burglarize her house, but were scared away by a friend of Ashley’s who was house-sitting in her absence.

Facebook Burglars Use Social Media Sites to Help Choose Targets

It used to be that criminals would peruse the obituaries or wedding announcements in the papers to find out when potential burglary targets would be out of the house.  Many a bereaving family through the years has returned to their home after a funeral only to find it had been broken into and robbed.

Nowadays, criminals can afford to be a little less cold-hearted, but equally as devious by simply logging onto any number of social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare where users freely post their locations – or where it is automatically posted for them with each post or Tweet.

Over the weekend, police in Nashua, New Hampshire recovered over $100,000 in goods and merchandise from 3 teenagers who committed over 50 break-ins in the area.  Though maybe not the “Facebook Burglars” that the media initially made them out to be, it seems that they used the popular website to check on at least one of their victim’s whereabouts before breaking into his home.

More notably, the “Bling Ring” burglars in California used Facebook, Twitter and other sites to research their celebrity victims and steal over $2 million dollars in merchandise and goods in their year-long crime spree that ended in the fall of 2009.

While social media sites provide fun ways to connect and share your life with your friends, they should be approached with a bit of caution.  Follow these social media site safety tips to avoid making yourself an easy target for web-savvy criminals:

Be Careful What You Post on Your Wall
Don’t be lured in by the false sense of safety that social media outlets provide. Whether you like it or not, you have to assume that your Facebook wall is a public place and that people with less than noble motives are reading what you write.

Have a Good Security Support Team
99% of the time nosy neighbors can be a nuisance.  When you’re away from home for an extended period of time, however, they can be a Godsend.  If you don’t have curious neighbors to keep an eye your house, enlist one, or even a friend or relative who lives nearby to stop in and check on things periodically while you’re gone.

    Hire a House Sitter
There’s nothing like a human presence at your place to ward off criminals.  Remember, the majority of crooks are, by nature, lazy and looking for an easy score.  They aren’t looking for a challenge to test their skills or for a big haul.  They’re looking for items that they can turn into cash quickly.  Simply having a person at your home while you’re away will most likely send them looking for an easier target.

    Install a Home Security System
We, of course, believe that a monitored home security system is the absolute best way to prevent property loss through theft or fire, especially if you’re frequently spending nights away from your home.  Simply set the alarm when you walk out the door and then enjoy your vacation or trip with peace of mind.

Monitronics turns 15, starts blog

Monitronics is turning 15 this year and like other teens, we want a blog (and Facebook and Twitter). So here we are, finally in the blogosphere. Hello, out there!

What are we doing here? Well, in addition to keeping our customers, dealers, and employees informed of the goings-on at Monitronics, we want to create a public forum to discuss issues of security, safety, and crime. Look for future posts on topics like new trends in home monitoring, FBI stats, crime-prevention tips, and your home through the eyes of a burglar.

But let’s start with something fun: celebrating 15 years in business. Since our inception in 1994 as a small start-up, we’ve grown to nearly 700 employees and 600,000 customers. We’ve got lots of reasons to celebrate.

And celebrate we did. On August 21, we wheeled in an amazing cake from Food Channel celebrity executive chef Bronwen Weber that was the center of attention. It was HUGE: Almost five feet long, four feet tall in parts, and more than 200 pounds.
